Plane passenger wears ‘Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some assembly required’ t-shirt – The Sun

A DECISION to allow a passenger on board a plane who was wearing a T-shirt calling on journalists to be lynched has sparked fury.

A fellow flyer, whose sister was a journalist, had complained to United Airlines staff about the Donald Trump supporter’s T-shirt reading "Rope. Tree. Journalist. some assembly required" because the words clearly threaten murder.

The offended passenger, who has worked in journalism and his sister Jessica Sidman was currently an editor at Washingtonian Magazine, told a United supervisor that he was troubled.

But he allegedly ended up being hauled of the plane, while the man wearing the murder threat T-shirt was allowed to fly.

Jessica decided to speak out on the incident occurred on United flight 824 from Los Angeles to Boston on October 11.

They offered to put my brother on another flight. They didn’t say anything to the guy with the shirt

In a series of tweets, she said: “Security pulled my brother off the plane.

“The security guy said they couldn’t do anything just because it was offensive.

"My brother said it wasn’t offensive, it was THREATENING.

“They offered to put my brother on another flight. They didn’t say anything to the guy with the shirt.”

Her tweets were met with fury.

One of those responding, Mike Fancer, asked: "Can’t help but wonder how they would have reacted if his shirt said airline pilot instead of journalist?"

The Sun Online has contacted United Airlines for a comment.

The T-Shirt first emerged in 2016 when a supporter of the US President — who regularly slams the media for being biased and producing fake news — was photographed wearing one.

In July 2017 Trump was accused of encouraging his supporters to attack journalists after he tweeted a video of himself at a pro-wrestling event throwing down a man with a CNN logo for a head.

He captioned it #FraudNewsCNN.

After a storm of controversy, Walmart supermarket, which at the time sold ammunition and guns, decided to pull the clothing.

But while the superstore giant took the shirts of the shelf, they are still available on Amazon for £17.49. It is available in 10 different colours.

Amazon has been contacted for a comment.
