Placido Domingo says harassment accusations have been a ‘nightmare’

The Big Tech Show: Post-founder depression

How do you cope when your startup fails?

The issue of mental health among founders isn’t widely discussed.

This week, Adrian talks to Eamon Leonard, the popular Irish startup founder who found it tough going after one of his companies failed.

Eamon talks candidly and honestly about the difficulties he had when things didn’t work out.

He also talks about the new company he has co-founded, Boundless, and recounts the eye-opening tale of how he was ripped off by fraudsters when trying to buy equipment for a side-business making whiskey.

Fatal shooting on Highway 7/8 in Kitchener was ‘targeted’: police

Waterloo Regional Police believe that the victim of the fatal shooting on Highway 7/8 in Kitchener, Irshad Sabriye, likely knew his killer or killers.

They announced Friday morning that Waterloo region’s fourth homicide of 2019 was a “targeted incident.”

Early Tuesday morning, police were called to Highway 7/8 near Courtland Avenue for reported gunshots.

Bloomberg presidential campaign hires top aide from Kamala Harris’s team

Michael Bloomberg has hired a top staff member from a rival Democratic campaign for his nascent presidential bid.

His campaign representatives said Wednesday that Kelly Mehlenbacher has joined as deputy chief operating officer. She had been working for California Sen. Kamala Harris’s 2020 presidential campaign. She previously worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential bid.

The Harris campaign did not respond to an emailed question about Mehlenbacher’s departure. It follows a recent staff shakeup that included layoffs amid a renewed focus on Iowa.

The New York Times published a Nov. 11 resignation letter in which Mehlenbacher apparently states that she had never before been associated with a campaign that treated its employees more poorly than the Harris campaign had done.

Bloomberg, the billionaire former New York City mayor, entered the race Sunday and has begun spending tens of millions of dollars on television ads.

The hire was first reported by Politico.

Cory Booker–backing super PAC shuts down

A super PAC formed to support Cory Booker’s Democratic presidential campaign is shutting down.

The group’s founder, San Francisco lawyer Steve Phillips, indicated in a news release Wednesday that Dream United had struggled to raise money.

Booker, a U.S. senator from New Jersey and formerly the mayor of Newark, N.J., has publicly disavowed support from super PACs, which aren’t required to disclose their donors publicly.

Phillips, a former college classmate of Booker’s, said that it became clear while trying to fundraise for Dream United “that the donor community is strictly adhering to Senator Booker’s publicly articulated wishes that he does not welcome independent support.” The group raised a little over $1.1 million during the first six months of the year, far short of Phillips’ stated $10 million goal.

Stabbing incident leaves multiple people hurt in Dutch city the Hague

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Multiple people were injured in a stabbing incident in the Hague’s main shopping street Friday night, police said.

The incident happened in the city’s main shopping street, which was busy with people looking for Black Friday deals, and occurred on the same day as a deadly knife attack in central London, which authorities there said was being treated as a terror attack.

Pictures from the area showed several dozen onlookers kept behind police fencing seeking a glimpse of the area where the stabbing took place.

The Hague police said in a statement that they were looking for a man, about 45 to 50 years old, in a grey jogging suit.

Police spokeswoman Marije Kuiper told the Associated Press in a telephone interview that it was not clear if the stabbing was a terror incident.

Further details were not immediately available.

Netherlands Stabbing Attack: 3 Injured In The Hague’s Shopping District

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Three people were wounded in a stabbing in The Hague’s main shopping street Friday night, and police were searching for at least one suspect, authorities said.

Police spokeswoman Marije Kuiper told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that it was still too early to say where a terror motive was to blame for the attack. The area was busy at the time as shoppers looked for Black Friday holiday deals.

Kuiper said it was unclear whether any of the injuries were life-threatening.

The Hague police said in a statement that they were looking for a man, about 45 to 50 years old, in a grey jogging suit.

The stabbing happened in the heart of The Hague shopping district where supermarket chains and luxury shops were all lit up with early Christmas decorations. Adding to the festive spirit was the lure of Black Friday, when retailers offers consumers special discounts at a time when many are seeking family presents.

Police sealed off a wide perimeter behind which onlookers were kept at bay. There was no hint of panic among the public soon after the stabbing.

The Netherlands had already been shocked by a similar stabbing in Amsterdam a year ago when two Americans were injured in a knife attack that prosecutors say had a “terrorist motive.”

Earlier Friday in London, a man wearing a fake explosive vest stabbed several people, killing two, before he was tackled by members of the public and then fatally shot by officers on London Bridge, authorities said.

Placido Domingo says harassment accusations have been a ‘nightmare’

MADRID — Placido Domingo says accusations against him of sexual harassment in the United States have been “a nightmare.”

Domingo said that he feels strong despite the difficulties and intends to continue performing at least until the end of his planned engagements running through 2021.

Spanish online newspaper El Confidencial published Friday the 80-year-old Spanish opera legend’s first interview since The Associated Press earlier this year reported allegations of sexual harassment made by multiple women against him.

Domingo denied the allegations. He says Spaniards are naturally “warm, affectionate and loving,” adding that he has always been “gallant” but “gallant gestures are viewed differently nowadays.”

He says the accusations are given “automatic” credibility and he feels “prematurely judged, sentenced and convicted.”

He says he has not been formally accused of any crime.
