HP board ‘unanimously’ rejects unsolicited proposal from Xerox, for now
There has to be some joke about two of America's oldest technology giants thinking about a merger. (Photo: Wikimedia Commons)
The printing corporation HP Inc. Sunday firmly rejected a proposed takeover bid from Xerox. In a statement, HP said the combined company would carry too much debt. HP said that Xerox’s offer “significantly undervalues HP” and the deal is “not in the best interest” of shareholders.
HP also said it might consider a possible merger with Xerox in the future if the company discloses more information.
Earlier this month, HP said it was in talks with Xerox about a possible “business combination,” which put a spotlight on the flailing printing industry as digital products increasingly displace hard copies.
“In reaching this determination, the Board also considered the highly conditional and uncertain nature of the proposal, including the potential impact of outsized debt levels on the combined company’s stock,” HP said in a statement.

HP rejects Xerox's $33.5 billion offer to buy the company
(Reuters) – HP Inc said on Sunday it had rejected an offer from printer maker Xerox Corp to buy the personal computer maker.
Xerox made a $33.5 billion cash-and-stock offer for HP earlier in November, the company said on Sunday, citing a letter received from Xerox on Nov. 5.
‘Breaking Bad’ Wanna-be’s Busted For Creating An Arkansas Meth Lab
Two college professors, one with the nickname Heisenberg, have been arrested and charged with making methamphetamine. Unbelievable coincidence? In the words of Walter White, “You’re goddamn right.”
In a parallel to the television classic Breaking Bad, Bradley Allen Rowland, 40, and Terry Bateman, 45, were arrested Friday afternoon, according to the Clark County, Arkansas Sheriff’s Department. Both are both associate professors of chemistry at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. They were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and using drug paraphernalia.
The meth lab was discovered when a university science lab was closed on Oct. 8 after an overwhelming odor was reported. An environmental services company was called in to do remediation work to ventilate the lab, and the building was reopened on October 29.
However, lab tests to determine the cause of the odor found traces of Benzyl chloride, a chemical that can be used to synthesize methamphetamine, among its other uses.
The college placed both men on administrative leave on Oct. 11. No date has been set for their court appearance.
Rowland was once called “Henderson’s Heisenberg” by the college’s newspaper, a nod to Bryan Cranston’s character Walter White’s nickname on Breaking Bad. He once told the paper that he liked the TV show because it helped students become interested in chemistry.
Pelosi Says Trump Is an ‘Insecure Imposter’
“I think [Trump] knows full well that he’s in that office way over his head,” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday morning.
Pelosi was a guest on CBS News’ Face the Nation and when asked why the president tweeted about Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch during her testimony in real-time during the impeachment hearings Pelosi said that President Donald Trump “knows her strength. And he was trying to undermine it.”
Host Margaret Brennan pressed Pelosi to go further, repeating the White House’s line that the president was only expressing his opinion.
“The president and perhaps some at the White House have to know that the words of the president weigh a ton. They are very significant. And he should not frivolously throw out insults, but that’s what he does,” Pelosi said.
Then the speaker unloaded, going right after Trump’s ego, saying, “I think part of it is his own insecurity as an imposter. I think he knows full well that he’s in that office way over his head. And so he has to diminish everyone else.”
But Pelosi would not state emphatically whether or not what the president tweeted was against the law. “I just think that was totally wrong and inappropriate and typical of the president,” Pelosi said.
Carlyle Blasted by Elizabeth Warren Over Taylor Swift’s Songs

The Warren tweet follows an earlier one by U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, who said that the private equity industry is holding Swift’s music “hostage” and also called for greater limits on the industry.
Warren also blasted private equity firms in a blog post in July, when she proposed overhauling the industry as part of her plan to regulate Wall Street. She proposed a number of changes, including holding the firms responsible for certain pension obligations of the companies they buy and limiting their ability to pay out dividends.
PG&E Says It May Cut Power to 180,000 in Northern California
PG&E Corp. is warning that it may cut power to about 180,000 customers in Northern California starting on Wednesday due to a forecast of dry, windy weather.
The utility said customers in the North Bay and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada could be impacted by the orchestrated blackouts designed to prevent power lines from sparking wildfires. PG&E provoked widespread outrage last month after conducting a series of mass blackouts that left some customers in the dark for days.
