Paul Rudd’s super nice clapback at New York Post for claiming he didn’t deserve ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ title
People magazine's 2021 “Sexiest Man Alive,” Paul Rudd, dropped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday. The actor received the title last week, and the announcement was mostly met with positive responses from the media and people online.
The Guardian ran a headline which read, “Do you fancy Paul Rudd? You're either a sociopath or a liar if you say no.” When Stephen Colbert asked about the headline, Rudd said, “I would like to thank The Guardian, first of all, for hiring my mom.”
Many celebrities, like Rudd’s former co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Alicia Silverstone celebrated the announcement on social media. But there were a few outlets which did not agree with the 52-year-old actor receiving the new moniker.
About five days before the official announcement was made, Page Six, which is operated by the New York Post, incorrectly claimed Chris Evans would be receiving the title. When they covered the Rudd announcement they wrote the headline, “Sorry, Paul Rudd is many things — but Sexiest Man Alive is not one of them.”
“Hey, that might be the first thing I ever read in the New York Post that I agree with,” Rudd said after Colbert shared the information with him. “That’s not fake news.”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
