Passenger plane with 83 people on board crashes in Afghanistan

A passenger plane carrying 83 people has crashed in Afghanistan, according to reports.

The Boeing 737-400 has reportedly come down in eastern Ghazni province, an area under control of the Taliban.

The crash scene is in the remote and mountainous Deh Yak district.

It is not yet known if anyone has survived after the plane burst into flames after crashing.

The plane reportedly belonged to Ariana Airlines and is 30 years old.

But the airline has since denied that it is one of its planes.

Because the jet has come down in a Taliban controlled area, Afghan authorities now face a painstaking attempt to get to the scene.

Ariana is the largest airline of Afghanistan and serves as the country's national carrier.
