The body of a partially-clothed, unidentified woman was discovered Friday morning in a trash bin on Staten Island, authorities said.

According to NBC 4 New York, the woman, believed to be in her 30s, was discovered in a bin in the 240 block of Heberton Avenue in Port Richmond just before 6am.

The landlord of the residence told the local news outlet that he has surveillance footage of the incident but that he doesn’t recognize the woman who was found.

As of Friday afternoon, the woman, found dressed only from the waist up, has yet to be publicly identified. She had been wrapped in a blanked, officials said.

A source within the NYPD told the New York Daily News Friday afternoon that they believe the woman may have died from a drug overdose.

The person also told the outlet that investigators believe her body may have been dumped in the trash by individuals who didn’t know what to do with her after she had overdosed.

Those details have not been confirmed or shared widely, however.

The woman was found partially naked Friday morning by law enforcement. Photos from the scene show the body covered by blankets

Officials discovered the body right next to a red pick-up truck in the driveway of the home

The scene was closed off for several hours as police and investigators worked to collect evidence and remove the body from where it was found

The body was wheeled away Friday afternoon from the scene and taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy

Police said Friday afternoon that they have tentatively identified the woman found and that they are working to contact her loved ones at this time.

The landlord also spoke with the New York Daily News on scene after the body was discovered. The man, who asked to be identified as ‘Joe,’ said he saw the situation play out on his cameras.

The footage allegedly captured one man dragging the woman out of an apartment inside the home, then leaving her in the driveway after he spotted a person walking.

‘My cameras picked up everything,’ Joe said.

‘He put her in the blue (bin) then covered her with blankets and dragged her outside and left her laying over there,’ the building owner continued.

‘I saw something pop out from the blankets,’ he said. ‘I believe it was her hand.’

After heading back into the apartment, the man later can be seen walking away as though nothing had happened, Joe said. He believes that the man in the video is a friend of the current tenant, who was also home at the time.

Evidence markers could be seen surrounding the body. The blue bin that officials believe was used to transport the woman was also seen right next to her body

The New York Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit was called in immediately to investigate and collect evidence from where the unidentified woman’s body was dumped

While speaking with NBC4, Joe said that he has been attempting to evict the tenant over activity at the home.

He also said that the tenant is under investigation and is being questioned by police.

One source told NBC 4 that officers on scene found ‘no indication of trauma’ otherwise to the woman’s body.

The local news source also spoke to one neighbor at the scene who said that her husband saw the body and appeared to recognize the woman as someone who lives in the area.

She also said that she was forced to cover her children’s’ faces while they were walking so that the kids wouldn’t see the body or the scene.

One neighbor told FreedomNews.TV that she was forced to cover her children’s eyes as they walked by the scene Friday morning in an attempt to shield them from the body

Joe also told the New York Daily News Friday afternoon that the cameras were ordered after receiving calls and complaints from neighbors about unknown individuals coming and going at all hours of the day and night.

He has cameras both inside and outside of the property, reportedly.

The crime scene tape was still up well into the afternoon hours Friday as officials worked to comb through the inside and outside of the property

Investigators spent hours at the scene attempting to figure out what had happened to the woman whose body was discovered abandoned

‘I’ve owned this building since 1999,’ Joe told the outlet. ‘I’ve had tenants pass away in there, but it’s never been a crime scene.’

He also said that after finding the footage of the incident, he immediately decided to change the locks, just in case the person in the video attempts to come back.

An autopsy has been scheduled and will be conducted to find a conclusive cause of death, authorities said Friday.
