Parents' horror as two-month-old baby stabbed to death & toddler, 2, seriously injured in horrific attack in Belfast

A TWO-month-old baby has reportedly been stabbed to death in Belfast while a two-year-old child is said to be seriously injured.

Police arrested one person and launched a murder probe following the horror attack in Ardoyne, north Belfast, last night.

Cops and paramedics were rushed to a house in the Brompton Park area of Ardoyne shortly after 8pm, Irish News reports.

In a statement, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "Police have commenced a murder investigation following the death of a child in the Brompton Park area of North Belfast this evening and made one arrest in relation to this."

According to Irish News the child was just two months old and was stabbed to death.

Local sources said the children's mum was also hurt in what is understood to be a domestic incident.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 20:16 on Tuesday 27 July following reports of an incident in the Ardoyne area of North Belfast.

"NIAS despatched a Rapid Response Paramedic and two emergency crews to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment two patients were taken to hospital in Belfast."

Local residents were said to be in a state of shock following the tragic killing.

And according to Cllr Paul McCusker, some helped police before the ambulance service arrived.

He said: "Terrible sad news tonight in Ardoyne involving a mother and two children.

"Police are continuing their investigations of what happened in Brompton Park.

"We now need to give them time to do this without speculating and think about those involved and the wider family.

"Lots of shock from residents, some assisting police before the ambulance service arrived."

Meanwhile, People Before Profit councillor Fiona Ferguson asked people not to speculate on the incident.

She said: "Devastating news from Ardoyne. All my thoughts are with the family involved and the community who are in a state of shock.

"Few situations are as difficult as this and local support is paramount.

"Would appeal for people to refrain from public speculation in respect for all involved."
