Our town is being terrorised by kids as young as TEN breaking into buildings, smashing up shops & spitting at women

KIDS as young as ten are wreaking havoc in a town – with feral yobs trashing properties and spitting at women.

Business owners and people living in Buckley, North Wales, say they are "living in fear " as they are being persistently terrorised.

One woman, in her late 70s, was spat at and had her walking stick kicked from under her.

Just this week, a new business premises and a charity shop were wrecked by the schoolboy gang.

Restaurant owner Martin Lovell, who woke on Tuesday morning to discover a takeaway outlet he planned to open within weeks had been the latest target for the young thugs in the town.

The youths had climbed onto a roof and busted in through a window to enter the building, then smashed it up before turning taps on in the toilets and fleeing.

In the hours that followed, the water flooded his premises and a hospice charity shop next door.

Mr Lovell, 51, said the repair work will run into thousands of pounds and has probably delayed the opening of his Thaidee business in the town by several weeks.

He said the town is “living in fear” of the child gang.

Mr Lovell told The Sun Online: "It’s been going on for a year now and they’re getting worse.

PAY DAY

When will I get the £650 one-off cost of living payment?

“They’re proper out of control now.

“They’re bored and they’ve nothing constructive to do so what started out as looking for a bit of mischief has turned into serious criminality and they need taking off the streets before someone gets hurt.

“They have been spitting at women who use a gym in the town and one elderly lady had her walking stick kicked away as she made her way to a women-only class. She too was spat at.

“Some of these kids are only ten years old. None of them can be older than 12 or 13.

“I saw a group of around a dozen of then who I assumed were the gang members and went over to speak to them after the damage to my restaurant.

“To be fair, they were actually quite respectful. They denied being involved, obviously, but I knew it was their work. I wanted to try and get inside their heads to find out why they were doing this.

“The answers I got were boredom and nothing to do.

'MINDLESS MISCHIEF'

“When I was a kid, if I’d done any of this, I’d have been marched home by my ear and given a good hiding by my father, but you can’t do anything to them and they know it.

“The locals have been incredibly supportive towards me but they feel as powerless as I do. I’m told the police are ready to come down very hard on them now, though, because these yobs have gone too far.”

A local in her 40s, who asked not to be named for fear of repercussions, said she is too "scared to leave the house in the evenings".

She added: “They rampage through the town like they own the place, swearing and spitting and yelling abuse at anyone who even looks at them.

“They’re a menace. They called me ‘an old c***' when I walked past them and when I got home I cried for two hours.

“I’m not leaving my house in the evening again until they’re locked up. Where the hell are their parents?”

Katie Roberts, head of retail for Nightingale House Hospice, whose charity shop was wrecked by flooding after the youths broke into Mr Lovell’s restaurant next door, has slammed the "reckless" yobs.

She said: "Our shops raise much-needed funds so we can deliver our vital care to local people with life-limiting illnesses.

"Over the past two years, just like many other retailers, we have closed for months at a time due to much-needed Covid restrictions which hugely impacted funds raised, and we are now faced with yet another store closure due to mindless mischief.

“Acts such as this reckless vandalism are despicable – the repair works will cost thousands of pounds and we are losing the opportunity to raise funds every day the shop is closed. Vital funds which go towards patient care for our community.

“I kindly ask all our supporters to keep their donations for us ready to stock our shop when we reopen as we will need your support more than ever.”
