One person injured, two pets rescued in fire being investigated as arson

One man suffered injuries Friday night in a fire that authorities are investigating as an attempted homicide and arson in unincorporated Jefferson County, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office and fire crews responded to a report of a basement fire around 6:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Depew Street.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. Firefighters also rescued a dog and a cat from the fire and gave the cat oxygen, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.

A woman was taken into custody during the investigation, the sheriff’s office said on Twitter. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.
