Notre Dame Cathedral has started to collapse in on itself after a large fire ripped through the 12th-century structure’s roof. Fire officials were immediately on the scene and evacuated the area. An exclusion zone around the site has been erected, and French president Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to visit. An investigation into the cause of the fire is also underway.

What caused the Notre Dame fire?

French media has reported the fire may be linked to ongoing renovation work at the cathedral.

Some parts of the building have been wrapped in scaffolding, and certain bronze statues were removed last week for works.

Officials have now opened an investigation into the fire to determine a concrete cause.
