Nine arrested for trespassing on Denver Police Department training academy property

Denver police arrested nine people Tuesday night after they broke through a fence and trespassed on its training academy property.

While inside the grounds the group defaced signs, according to a Denver Police Department news release. Officers arrived quickly once the break-in was detected.

Nine were arrested on suspicion of second-degree criminal trespass while two also were arrested on suspicion of possession burglary tools. Six cars associated with the suspects were impounded, the news release said. Those arrested ranged in age from juveniles to a woman who was 36 years old.

Police continue to investigate the motive behind the trespassing and whether more people were involved, the news release said.

“If Denver residents have concerns and/or ideas about the future of policing in Denver, we encourage them to contact us and engage in productive dialogue,” said Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said in the news release. “However, reckless efforts to harm people and property in our city are inexcusable and will not be tolerated.”
