A NEWBORN baby tragically died in bed with his dad just two months after his mum passed away.

Young Dexter Khan-Barnes' family have now opened up about their heartbreak, saying he and his mum are "together now".

Laura Barnes suddenly died when she suffered a blood clot after having baby Dexter via caesarean section.

Just weeks later her family had to deal with more tragedy after Dexter died in the night.

Laura's devastated mum Jennifer said all she ever wanted to be was a mother.

Jennifer added that at least now Laura and Dexter are now together having being robbed of the chance to meet in their lifetimes.

Dexter was born at 32 weeks and spent around six weeks in the neonatal unit before being discharged with dad Shane Khan.

An inquest into his death today heard how Dexter was checked over by a nurse – who found he was in good health.

Shane said he put his baby to sleep in his bed, next to his 14-month-old brother, and sleepy horizontally along the foot of the bed.

LancsLive reported coroner Richard Taylor said Shane woke at 5.30am and noticed his baby was not moving as he usually would.

It was then that he realised Dexter's arms were floppy and his eyes discoloured.

The newborn was raced to hospital but tragically pronounced dead.

A post-mortem carried out by pathologist Dr William Simmons was unable to ascertain a cause of death and found no evidence of prior illness or injuries which could have contributed.

Mr Taylor said: "In these circumstance, it is not possible to completely exclude accidental air obstruction as having caused to contributed to Dexter's death. As such, the cause of death remains unascertained."

Concluding, Mr Taylor said: "Dexter Khan-Barnes died on July 30, 2022 at Royal Blackburn Hospital having been found unresponsive at his home in the bed he shared with his brother."
