New Jersey woman allegedly spits on cop, yells she has coronavirus

A New Jersey woman faces charges after allegedly spitting on a cop and yelling she had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Jenna Richardson, 24, of West Deptford, was under arrest and being placed in the back of a patrol car when she spat on one of the officers Wednesday afternoon, the West Deptford Police Department said.

Police had found Richardson engaged in a “disturbance between two females” around 3:05 p.m. when they placed her under arrest, the department said.

Richardson was transported to the hospital for evaluation and before being lodged in the Salem County Correctional facility. She was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

The officer was treated at a hospital and later released, the department said.

She is not the first New Jerseyan to behave as such. NJ.com has reported at least four other residents face similar accusations of spitting or coughing on officers while claiming to be infected.

Gov. Phil Murphy has taken the time to call out the residents during his coronavirus briefing.

“There are knuckleheads out there. We see them and we are enforcing behavior,” Murphy said late last month.
