Neighbours from hell’ pour soup into woman’s letterbox in ‘bitter feud’
A couple claim that neighbours poured soup through their letterbox amid an ongoing feud on a tough council estate in Newcastle.
Lynsey Hope and Rhys Mills also said that they have had fireworks chucked at them and Lynsey, 36, has been given a black eye.
However their own neighbours insist that the pair are the “nuisance neighbours” and have been slapped with a warning from police amid claims they are “yobs and menaces”.
But Lynsey said: "We've had fireworks thrown, I've been jumped on and given a black eye – the lot.
"Someone even poured soup through my letterbox.
"The police have been out because of this, even though we've done nothing wrong.
"All we want to do is just get on with our lives and have some peace."
But not everyone agrees.
Locals claim as many as a dozen people have complained about the duo since Rhys moved in to the estate in South Shields last summer. He insists there have been just 10 complainants.
But one local, who wouldn't be named, said: "They are very aggressive and threatening."
Everything from fires to random abuse to people has been linked to the pair, who maintain their innocence.
But the local added: "They are out all the time shouting 'you're getting exposed, just watch' and calling some people 'nonces'.
"Honestly man, they just do your head in – they are the worst people I've ever lived next to.
"They've only been here since last summer but people are already are so sick they want out.
"People have tried to be nice to them but they are a nightmare – it's awful living near them."
Rhys and Lynsey were slapped with a Community Protection Notice after a string of complaints.
It claims that, among other things, they are fly-tipping, starting fires and displaying aggressive behaviour – as well as racist language.
But they deny all of the allegations.
"There isn't even a black person in the street so I don't know where they get that from," said Lynsey.
"They are accusing us of fly-tipping – but someone else is throwing beds out on the street.
"We just keep ourselves to ourselves yet we being accused of all this stuff.
"It is the other people that are causing the problems, not us.
"I mean, the neighbours are saying we have been starting fires – but where is all the evidence?"
A North Tyneside Council spokesperson insisted there was sufficient evidence to help bring the action.
The authority did state multiple complaints had been made from both sides.
But while those made by Rhys and Lynsey couldn't be substantiated – some against them could.
For the pair, both not working due to long-term sickness, they fear it could cost them the roof over their heads and their benefits axed.
"I've been a tenant with this council for years," insisted Rhys, who says he has Asperger’s.
"Now they are saying I'm going around starting fires, but I'm not." said Rhys.
"This is all just my mental health."
Lynsey claims they started making note of the trouble last October. Soon after, the calls to the council started.
But for Lynsey, she claims she and Rhys – who met at a mental health meeting – are the ones having a horrid time.
And she's so fed-up she claims she's now heading to make a statement to police.
"Some people have come after Rhys taxing him for his shopping and they keep calling us grasses every time we go out.
"I'd hoped it would have died down by now – but it is only getting worse.
They are the ones driving around at night keeping us up with their cars, and sitting around drinking.
"We just want to put our heads down."
