The day celebrates the relationships between siblings.

It originated in the US but is now celebrated in many countries around the world, including the India, Australia and Japan.

When is it?

It is marked on April 10, every year and intended as a celebration of the relationship between brothers and sisters.

The idea was initially conceived by Claudia Evart to honour her brother and sister who both died at early ages.

April 10 was chosen as it was the birthday of her late sister, Lisette.

It takes its inspiration from Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The Siblings Day Foundation was incorporated in 1997 and became a charity in 1999.

According to the foundation it is meant to “honour, celebrate and memoralise all brothers and sisters, and the bond that is forever a special gift”.

However the day is not officially recognised.

Is it celebrated in the UK?

Not really but it does seem to be growing in popularity.

There is no one particular way to celebrate the day and it can be marked by simply giving a greetings card, a gift or maybe even going to dinner.

How is it different to Brother and Sister day?

It is very similar to  Siblings Day.

Brother and Sister day is celebrated every year on May 2, to honour the relationships between brothers and sisters.

The idea for the day came about when a woman realised after her brother's death that she had never let him really know how much he meant to her.

But despite its growing popularity, it is still not celebrated on the same scale as Mother's Day or Father's Day.

Brother and Sister day is an event to mark and honour the life long bonds between brothers and sisters.

It follows in the spirit of Mother's Day and Father's Day and aims to celebrate family values.
