Mystery as UPS worker crushed to death in conveyor belt – The Sun

A UPS worker “died tragically” after he became trapped in a conveyor belt at a facility earlier this week.

Jakob Watson, 24, was working as a contractor with UPS in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday when he somehow got stuck in the machine.

Police were called to the scene around 6pm and fire crews pulled Watson from the belt system before taking him to a hospital, local deputy fire chief Jimmy Walker told KMBC.

First responders were able to resuscitate the man, but on Tuesday, Watson died from his injuries.

UPS, which confirmed Watson’s death, said in a statement: “We are saddened for the loss of a vendor's employee, who was maintaining equipment at one of our facilities.”

“We are working with the responding authorities, and extend our heartfelt condolences to the individual's family, friends and coworkers.”

Former UPS warehouse employee Jason Waldvogel alleged to Metro US that the company “did Watson pretty bad.”

“He was a maintenance man (and) worked in a big warehouse by himself with no help.”

He added: "To my understanding. I’m pretty sure he got stuck in the conveyor belt somehow.”

It wasn’t immediately clear how Watson became trapped in the machine.

A GoFundMe account set up for Watson’s family said he had just celebrated his 24th birthday less than two weeks ago.

“He is a Christian man who loved to fish, collect knives and held at his church with the youth program,” the fundraiser reads.

“His family calls him a country boy at heart.”

The page states Watson was the youngest of four siblings and had four nieces and a nephew.
