‘My mum kept dead babies in wardrobe for 20 years’ Decades of horror revealed by daughter

Despite the dark experience, the 47-year-old said: “I wouldn’t change any of it.

She continued to tell The Liverpool Echo: “I couldn’t stand the woman – and what she put us all through. But I wouldn’t go back and change any of it.

“It’s made me a better mother and person.”

Ms Lee, from St Helens, even said she walked in on her boyfriend having sex with her mum.

She later discovered the boyfriend she had lived with for 19 years was the dad of one of the dead tots – leaving her with the horrifying realisation she was the child’s half-sister and step mum.

Quirk was spared jail for hiding the births and was instead slapped with a two-year community order. She died in February before the sentence could take effect.

Forensics revealed each child had abnormalities and all had different dads.

Chief Inspector Neil Bickley, of Mersey Police, said at the time of Quirk: “She said she gave birth at home alone on her own and that the babies didn’t move and were still and didn’t make any noise – it was at that point she wrapped them up and put them in the bin.”

All babies were later given proper burials after they were discovered.

Ms Lee’s shocking story can be read in the book Silent Sisters to be published by Mirror Books on April 18.
