He was arrested by authorities on December 13 and is now understood to be awaiting extradition to the US.
Sue Marcum was found dead in the basement of her home and Landeros was named as the prime suspect, spending the last 12 years on the FBI most wanted list.
Speaking to El Pais from a phone in Mexico City, he said: “I’m innocent… not of everything, obviously. But of what I’m being accused of.”
He said he started a new life and became Ferrara, ignoring the news following his old life behind.
Landeros explained: “I didn’t follow anything. Once I disappeared from the radar, I completely forgot about [the investigation]. I still have difficulty responding to the name ‘Jorge’ – I hardly have any of him inside of me anymore.”

Regardless, Landeros is now facing charges of first-degree murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Students of Ferrara have been left shocked by the sudden disappearance of their yoga instructor and were even the ones to file the missing person report for their absent teacher.
Speaking to El Pais a student who went by the name Maria, said: “I feel like I’m grieving. I know León, but I don’t know who Jorge is”.
When she went to file a missing person report, she said she was told: “Your friend isn’t missing. He’s in custody and has an Interpol file. We can’t tell you more.”
She added: “If I ever have the opportunity to sit down with him, I’ll have to ask him a lot of questions.”
