Mum who never recovered after son died in scaffolding fall killed in crash

A heartbroken mother who has been battling with grief for years following her son’s tragic death has been killed in a car crash.

Paula Tiffin, from Washington in Sunderland, was killed after the car she was in crashed into a garden wall as it was chased by police.

She was the passenger in the vehicle and the driver Bradley Webb recently pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Paula, a mum-of-11, reportedly never got over the death of her seven-year-old son Adam.

He tragically died after falling 26ft from scaffolding near his home.

Paula had already suffered tragedy just weeks before after her baby daughter Angel was born stillborn.

The 52-year-old had to battle through for the sake of her other children as they hailed her for being their “rock”.

Speaking to ChroncileLive, her daughter Amie said her mum still slept with the t-shirt Adam was wearing on the day he died under her pillow.

Amie said: "She was so strong, she lived for her kids, but she never got over what happened to Adam. It just totally messed her whole life up.

She underwent three major operations to save her life but she sadly passed away on August 25 surrounded by her family.

The mother was cremated last month along with Adam's T-shirt, which was under her pillow, in her coffin.

Paula told ChronicleLive in 2009 that she felt responsible for Adam’s death and should not have let him out.

However, the construction firm that erected the scaffolding had left it there for 11 days following repairs and admitted responsibility for errors that led to Adam’s death.

Lovell Partnerships Limited was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive and fined £75,000 for a breach of safety regulations.

Webb, 25, of Queen Street, Hetton-le-Hole, has also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance and without a licence.

He is remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court in December.
