Mum died after bursting into flames when she poured petrol over herself to scare her cheating husband'

A MUM died after bursting into flames when she doused herself in petrol to "scare" her cheating husband, an inquest heard.

Ambreen Hussain erupted in a fireball as her husband of 15 years, Mobeen, frantically tried to extinguish the flames using a pan of water.

The 35-year-old was rushed to hospital but died four days later from multiple organ failure due to burns that covered more than 90 per cent of her body.

An inquest heard how the couple had been suffering marital problems for six months after Mobeen's affair was exposed.

On November 13, they rowed before he saw his wife  “pouring something over herself” and then she “instantly set on fire”.

ERUPTED IN A FIREBALL

CCTV from the couple's home in Teesside showed Ambreen in the back garden dousing herself in petrol used for a child's scooter and holding a white, lit piece of paper.

She then erupted into flames but the footage didn't show whether she applied the burning paper to her body, the hearing was told.

Mobeen then rushed over and tried to put her out with his bare hands as neighbours wrapped her in clingfilm.

'I THINK SHE WAS TRYING TO SCARE ME'

He said in a statement read to the court: "It was all just a blur – I was trying to put the fire out with my own hands.

“I do not think she meant to set herself on fire – I think she was just trying to scare me.”

Teesside assistant coroner Jo Wharton said Ambreen was a “much-loved wife, mother and daughter”, who had been “angry” following the row with her husband.

She recorded a misadventure verdict after saying she couldn’t be satisfied the mum intended to take her own life.

The coroner also referred to a police statement saying it didn't like the flame from the paper had made physical contact with Ambreen’s body in the CCTV footage.

She added: “Her death was attributed to an accident that occurred due to a risk that was taken voluntarily.”
