Mum and friends left ‘unable to speak or walk’ as drinks ‘spiked’ on night out
A mother’s night out with her mates nearly ended in disaster when they ended up unable to walk or talk after their drinks were allegedly spiked.
Mum-of-three Kura Perkins and her pals fell violently ill after leaving their drinks unattended at a pub in Perth, Western Australia, while they got up for a dance.
Kura said that minutes later she was paralysed and had to rely on strangers to hold her up while she tried to contact her husband.
The trio had been sharing a bottle of sparkling wine at Freo Social on Friday.
“The last thing on our minds was having our drinks spiked,” Kura told 9 News.
She added that her symptoms included becoming “very incoherent, not being able to stand up or walk, numbness in the legs and violent vomiting”.
It led to a 45-minute black hole when she didn’t know what she was doing or what was going on. She ended up outside the pub by herself.
Two friendly strangers helped her but she couldn’t tell them who she was or who she was with. They eventually contacted her husband who came to pick her up.
Freo Social, in Fremantle, said the incident was reported to police, who attended the bar on the night.
In a Facebook post, the pub said: “This is something no one should go through. It is both frightening for the victims and their friends and family.
“We are deeply saddened that this occurred at our venue – a place we strive to be safe for all.
“We therefore wish take this moment to remind our patrons to keep a look out for each other and for suspicious activity, and to report anything of concern immediately to venue management or security.”
A Western Australia police spokesperson said that anyone who thought they’d had their drinks spiked should go to hospital, both for help and to have a sample taken.
“This is paramount from an investigative perspective, as it will support other aspects of the investigation such as speaking to witnesses, and interrogating CCTV if applicable,” the spokesperson said.
