Mount Everest climbers trek past FROZEN CORPSE on peak that has claimed 11 lives in 9 days

The disturbing photo was taken on the Hillary Step on May 23.

Mountaineers can be seen trekking above the body, in a haunting picture which reveals the dangers of scaling the world’s tallest peak.

Canadian filmmaker Elia Saikaly, who has now climbed Everest three times, posted the image on Instagram.

“I have a lot to say and share. I cannot believe what I saw up there,” he wrote.

“Here we all were, chasing a dream and beneath our very feet there was a lifeless soul. Is this what Everest has become?”

“Death. Carnage. Chaos,” he added, “Dead bodies on the route and in tents at camp 4. People who tried to turn back who ended up dying.

“People being dragged down. Walking over bodies. Everything you read in the sensational headlines all played out on our summit night.”

“The early morning light had revealed the gateway to the summit of Everest and in parallel a human being who had lost his life,” Saikaly wrote.

“Here we all were, chasing a dream and beneath our very feet there was a lifeless soul. Is this what Everest has become?

“As I documented the team climbing the iconic step, my mind raced and empathised with every person who struggled to stay alive while undoubtedly questioning their own humanity, ethics and integrity.”

But he added: “At nearly 9000m above sea level, there is no choice but to carry on.”

Tragic British climber Robin Fisher, 44, had written about Mount Everest’s notorious “death zone” just hours before he died.

Just days before, he posted a selfie in an oxygen mask on Instagram.

“Completed oxygen training which we will use in the so called death zone, above 8,000m,” he shared with his followers on May 14.

Among the recent deaths are an Indian and an Irishman.
