VIDEO: Motorist high on cannabis drives BMW wrong way along the M56… to get to McDonald’s

  • Hassan Waseem, 23, was high on cannabis when he was driving the wrong way
  • He was going to McDonald’s, but said he doesn’t remember driving on the M56
  • Waseem was sentenced to 12 months jail at the Chester Crown Court on Friday

Everyone has done a quick McDonald’s run in their day, but few would have gone as far as this man to get to the golden arches.

Police dash cam video shows Hassan Waseem, 23, driving the wrong way on North Cheshire’s M56 motorway in attempt to get to McDonald’s, while high on cannabis.

Sergeant Anton Sullivan, who took the footage, was forced to swerve out of the way of Waseem’s BMW, only just avoiding a potentially fatal collision.

Waseem, 23, eventually pulled over into the emergency stopping lane and was arrested by Cheshire Police.

He subsequently tested positive for cannabis and told police that he was so high that he couldn’t even remember driving on the M56.

Sergeant Sullivan told the Manchester Evening News that he was terrified during the incident.

He said: ‘Not only did I fear for my own safety, but also for the safety of my colleagues and the hundreds of other motorists who were using that stretch of road.’

Waseem pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, drug-driving, driving without insurance and possession of a class B drug at Chester Crown Court on Friday.

He received a 12-month sentence and has been banned from driving for three-and-a-half years.

He will also have to take an extended driving test at the conclusion of his three-and-a-half-year ban.

Superintendent Jo Marshall-Bell said to Manchester Evening News that the case highlighted the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs.

‘Not only is he lucky to be alive, it is a wonder that no-one else was killed or seriously injured as a result of his reckless actions,’ he said.
