AN evil mother ignored her five-year-old daughter's cries for help after renting her to a paedophile for £300, police say.

Shirley Harmon, 36, reportedly confessed to cops she allowed Gary Landreth, 62, to assault the child on "multiple occasions" between 2017 and January this year in Odessa, Texas.

Harmon was arrested on March 4 and has been charged with felony aggravated sexual assault of a child, The Odessa American reports.

In a police interview she admitted the child had told her about the abuse and, despite her protests, she allowed Landreth to continue spending time with her.

During a subsequent interview Harmon is said to have confessed to taking $400 for access to her daughter at her home.

The girl had to recount her sickening ordeal in a forensic interview with specialist investigators.

A medical examination revealed she had sustained injuries consistent with sexual assault.

It is unclear how the allegations of the abuse came to light. The final assault was on January 7, police say.

Landreth was arrested on January 14 and charged with the aggravated sexual assault of the girl.

He was freed ten days later after posting $50,000 bond.

Harmon is currently in custody after failing to come up with the same amount for bail.
