The moment a Southwest Airlines staffer serenaded the mother of a fallen Arizona trooper has gone viral after a passenger praised staff for gesture on the way to Louisville, Kentucky.

Debbie Edenhofer’s son died July 2018 and a video from last Friday shows a man who works for the carrier belting out You Raise Me Up, a 2002 song by Secret Garden.

After finishing his rendition of the tune, popularized by Josh Groban in the US in 2003 and Irish band Westlife in 2005, the employee receives a round of applause.

The clip from Sean Warren had been viewed more than 40,000 times by Saturday.

‘So today I got on my flight to Louisville, wearing my headphones, taking up as much space as possible so that no one would sit by me,’ the delighted passenger wrote. ‘Sitting comfortably in my personal universe listing to one of my favorite jams, the public address crackled and one of your flight attendants interrupted me.

Sean Warren said: ‘I think we should have more interruptions like this. In fact, it is no interruption at all’

‘He stated that we had a mother on the flight whose son had been killed in the line of duty as a state trooper. He then proceeded to sing her a beautiful song.’

Arizona Trooper Tyler Edenhofer was shot and killed in the line of duty on July 25, 2018. 

Warren then went on to thank the airline for allowing the unusual use of the announcement system. 

He also thanked the Edenhofer family for their service.

‘I just want you to know I think we should have more interruptions like this. In fact, it is no interruption at all. It actually makes things quite clear. And it shares, in a public way, a private burden this family carries,’ Warren explained. ‘To the flight attendant….thank you for leading us and for honoring them. To the mother…..’Thank you’ seems so utterly inadequate.

‘May you be blessed daily in your thoughts of your son’s service and sacrifice. May heaven give you in abundance what you missed here on earth.’

Mother Debbie was on the way to ceremony where a bench was to be dedicated in honor of her son at Skyview Park in Jeffersontown.

Edenhofer was a graduate of Jeffersontown High School in Louisville, Kentucky and family of the fallen trooper live in the Louisville area.

This particular story touched my heart and I couldn’t think of a better way to honor their son’s legacy by singing such a wonderful song. 

‘We never know why someone is traveling but when we do we want to be there for them. Southwest gives me the freedom to be myself and celebrate with our customers or be a shoulder to cry on in times of need.’

It’s not the first time he has gone viral. In a January 2015 video he is seen singing uptempo tracks to a plane full of thankful passengers to help them kill time. 

It got over 190,000 views.
