Moment Russian 'skitcher' smashes into oncoming driver

What a mug! Moment Russian snowboarder smashes into oncoming driver (and spills his drink) as he is towed behind car

  • The accident was recorded on January 23 in Belgorod, a city in western Russia
  • ‘Skitching’ refers to a snowboarder who hitches a ride on the back of a vehicle
  • After veering into the wrong lane, the novice ‘skitcher’ hits an oncoming car

A Russian driver had a bizarre accident when he was hit by a snowboarder hitching a ride behind a car.

Dashcam footage, recorded on January 23 in Belgorod, Russia, shows the snowboarder collide with the car bonnet and shower it with coffee from the mug he was clutching in his other hand.

The video starts with motorist Boris Kuznetsov driving through a snowy residential area in the west of Russia.

A snowboarder being towed by a car in Belgorod, Russia, veered into the wrong lane and hit a stopped car – spilling his mug of hot drink in the process

An oncoming car appears, with a snowboarder hitching a ride – or ‘skitching’ – behind it.

Mr Kuznetsov slows down but as the oncoming vehicle passes him on his left the snowboarder veers into his path.

Afterwards, Mr Kuznetsov said: ‘Until that moment, I was sure that he would be able to stop or go around me.

‘As it turned out later, he was just a beginner.’

The novice snowboarder, who is holding the insulated mug in his left hand, seems to lose control and hits a mound of snow at the side of the road.

He rebounds off it and spins towards Mr Kuznetsov’s car.

The driver said he was ‘sure that [the snowboarder] would be able to stop or go around’ the motionless vehicle – until suddenly it became clear he was out of control

With a thump, the snowboarder crumples, and his hand, still holding the mug, appears above the car bonnet as he tried to pull himself back up.

According to Mr Kuznetsov, the snowboarder was not hurt and the car was undamaged by the impact.

Belgorod, in western Russia, just north of the border with Ukraine, translates into English as the ‘white city’ – owing to the heavy snowfall seen in the city.

In January, the average snow depth in Belgorod is six inches (15cm).
