Moment ‘drunk’ bus driver ploughs through a red light and into a car injuring nine Brit tourists he was taking to an airport in Turkey

Nine British tourists were injured when a minibus driver ploughed through a red light and into a busy crossroads in Turkey while ferrying them to the airport earlier this week.

Shocking CCTV footage captured the moment the minibus, carrying 11 people including driver Ramazan Yildiz, jumped the stop and smashed full-tilt into an oncoming vehicle on the D-400 road in the Manavgat district of Antalya. 

The car was battered some 150ft away from the crossroads by the sheer force of the impact, while the bus careened into the road median and flipped over. 

Nine out of the 11 Brits sustained injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics, while police interviewing the bus driver reportedly discovered he had been drinking prior to the crash.

Firefighters were forced to cut the driver of the stricken car free of the wreckage as his car doors were so heavily damaged he was unable to drag himself out of the vehicle

The injured Britons were identified by Turkish media as Joanne Sharples, 54, David Pratt, 56, Liam David, 19, Bethany Louise Mcguire, 18, Thomas Stone, 39, Jenna Stone, 32, and Natalie McCall, 36, as well as two children. 

The driver of the stricken car, Kadir Sönmez, was also hurt in the accident.

Firefighters were forced to cut him free of the wreckage as his car doors were so heavily damaged he was unable to drag himself out of the vehicle.  

One young child travelling in the minibus was one of just two people unhurt, miraculously escaping injury despite the brutality of the crash and the subsequent rolling of the vehicle.

He was seen calmly watching an iPad while his parents received treatment from paramedics on the grass by the roadside in the aftermath of the incident.
