Poland has hosted a slapping championship which saw a 350 pound (25 stone) MMA fighter knocked out with a single strike.

The bizarre contest, held in the western city of Wroclaw last weekend, saw men line up on opposite sides of a podium and take turns to slap each other in the face in the hope of winning the £9,165 (50,000 Polish Zlotych) prize.

Footage shows Brazilian MMA fighter Wagner da Conceicao Martins, 43, better known as Zuluzinho, being slapped so hard by his Polish rival Karol ‘Bula’ Flilasinki that he collapsed and fell to the ground.

But Flilasinki was able to get to his feet and shake off the blow before unleashing a mighty slap to Martins’s right ear that sends him falling into the floor.

According to the rules of the ‘PunchDown’ slap tournament, the contestants were not allowed to block their opponent’s strikes or duck out of the way.

In the contest, 16 ‘slap fighters’ took part in a knockout stage of one vs one duels, with contestants slapping each other alternately on the cheek with an open hand with a maximum of three blows per person.

The winner is decided by knockout or a judges verdict and wins a prize of £9,165 and a ticket to the U.S. for the next PunchDown competition.

Martins, who has a long career in MMA, was one of three Brazilian contestants at the competition.

The contest was eventually won by Polish fighter Dawid Zalewski, his third championship win.

Russia has also hosted slapping contests in recent years, which sees contestants knocked out by powerful blows.

In 2019, a slapping competition formed part of the Siberian Power Show, a two-day extravaganza which also featured pole dancing and ‘mass wrestling’.

The ‘slap championship’ saw one man being knocked out cold with a single strike.

The stand between the players is said to be there to help them balance as they are not allowed to defend themselves.
