MLB umpire Rob Drake apologizes for ‘cival war’ tweet
The umpire who threatened on Twitter to buy a rifle in response to an impeachment inquiry into President Trump apologized for sending the incendiary message on Thursday, a report said.
Umpire Rob Drake issued the apology to ESPN reporter Jeff Passan, offering his “sincerest apologies” for writing the tweet.
“I especially want to apologize to every person who has been affected by gun violence in our country,” Drake wrote in the apology, according to ESPN.
“I also acknowledge and apologize for the controversy this has brought to Major League Baseball, my fellow umpires and my family.”
Drake wrote on Twitter late Tuesday that he would buy the weapon, “because if you impeach MY PRESIDENT this way, YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER CIVAL WAR!!! #MAGA2020”, ESPN reported.
The tweet was sent — and deleted, as was his Twitter account — after Drake tweeted another message about the impeachment inquiry.
“I’m going to learn from this. Once I read what I had tweeted I realized the violence in those words and have since deleted it,” Drake added in the apology.
