The trial for Jeremy Webster, a 26-year-old Colorado Springs man accused of killing a teen boy following a road rage incident in Westminster two years ago, abruptly ended Friday before the jury was seated due to a witness’s medical emergency.

Jury selection had been underway this week, with opening arguments set to begin Friday afternoon. But Judge Priscilla Loew announced in the early afternoon that a medical emergency for one of the prosecution’s witnesses will prevent the trial from going on as scheduled.

Court officials characterized the witness as “indispensable” to the prosecution and said the medical situation would prevent her from traveling to Colorado to testify.

The court declared a mistrial before jury selection was finished, and a new trial is now set for Oct. 25.

Webster faces 22 charges in connection with the shocking June 14, 2018 shooting in a Westminster dental office’s parking lot that killed Vaughn Bigelow Jr., 13, and left the teen’s mother and brother injured. A bystander was also shot and injured while sitting in his truck.

The Bigelows were en route to a dental appointment when Meghan Bigelow, Vaughn’s mother, got into a confrontation on Sheridan Boulevard while trying to change lanes to allow an emergency vehicle to pass.

After the confrontation, Webster followed the family to the parking lot, where he began firing, witnesses said during a 2018 preliminary hearing.
