Ministers to pull the trigger on emergency 'Operation Yellowhammer' plans if there's no deal on Brexit by Monday

MINISTERS will pull the trigger on emergency 'Operation Yellowhammer' No Deal plans in days.

If Brexit day can't be pushed back from March 29 by Monday, the Government will implement all its planning for Britain to leave without an agreement in place.

In a letter to Cabinet ministers, Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay revealed the news, The Telegraph reported.

He said: Operation Yellowhammer command and control structures will be enacted fully on 25 March unless a new exit date has been agreed between the UK and the EU".

This morning Commons boss Andrea Leadsom said the Government were preparing to "make sure essential services continue to work" if we leave without a deal.

"As you'd expect, any competent government prepares for all eventualities," she told LBC.

Steps would be taken to protect jobs, the economy and Britain's security.

Hundreds of staff have been diverted from Departments across the Government to get us ready to leave with nothing if we have to.

There's just nine days to go before Britain leaves the EU officially.

Even though MPs voted not to leave without a deal technically it's the default option if there's nothing else in place.

Today Theresa May will ask the EU for a short extension – around a few months.

She caved to pressure from her Brexiteer Cabinet ministers who feared that that the Tories wouldn't accept it.

Today Iain Duncan Smith warned that a longer extension where we stay in the EU for past the EU elections would cause huge problems for the party ahead of the local elections in May.
