Mind-bending optical illusion shows an object or a word… but what do YOU see first?

A MIND-BOGGLING optical illusion has stunned viewers who can see both an object and a word – but which one appears first?

Reddit user Donut_Playz_7573 shared the confusing piece of art that causes people to see different things on the thread r/optical illusions.

At first glance, it may look like the image is simply a black stencilled outline of a man's face.

However, if you tilt your head to the right just a touch then the words "Liar" form with the face disappearing.

The post is titled "do you see a face or the word liar first?"

Seeing the face first was the more popular opinion amongst the comments.

One user commented that they saw the "face first" with another replying "probably because nobody is gonna turn their head sideways and read that as '8 Liar'.

The subreddit was created to highlight old and new optical and visual illusions.

An optical illusion or a visual illusion is one that shows images that differ from normal reality.

The information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception of what is there.

Recently an optical illusion featuring a circle with a black and white zigzag pattern caused a storm on Twitter.

Another reddit post also stirred debate after users were left divided on what colour staircase they saw first.
