Millions of Brits to hit the road for sizzling 25C Bank Holiday scorcher

If you thought the summer weather was done with Britain this year then you are very sorely mistaken because it's about to get hot.

This Bank Holiday weekend the summer will return with a bang as temperatures surge just in time for the country's favourite long weekend.

Sadly, so far August has been a washout after heat levels went sky-high in some parts of the country in July, but since then sunny days have been extremely hard to come by.

However, the good news is that the Met Office has forecast a glorious weekend of sunshine, which means pub gardens, trips to the beach, BBQs, and ice creams.

Or if you don't like the heat, it means a weekend inside the house with the curtains closed watching James Bond films.

On Saturday, Scotland and Northern Ireland will see the hottest temperatures, but across the entire country there will be bright sunshine with the weather perfectly placed for heading outdoors.

In fact, the RAC estimates a staggering 16.7 million leisure trips are in the pipeline on UK roads between Friday and Monday, writes The Mirror.

Through the rest of the weekend, the best weather will be found in the south east, along the south coast and in London.

In those areas the mercury will get up to highs of 22C or 23C, but with the possibility that some parts could reach 24C and 25C.

Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: "It will be a largely fine and settled weekend; there's very little – if any – rain in the forecast."

It is a very busy weekend for revellers with a number of festivals and music events taking place across the country.

Reading and Leeds Festival will both dominate the weekend's music scene but Creamfields in Cheshire is also set to go off with a bang with some fine weather

With so many families hitting the road for the August Bank Holiday congestion could become a real problem.

The RAC is warning those taking to the roads to expect queues and delays this weekend, but also urging drivers to do everything they can before setting out to avoid adding to the jams by breaking down
