Met Office warning EXTENDED: Up to 6INCHES of rain to fall in 4 hours as thunderstorms hit

Met Office warnings have now extended over the entirety of the UK, as the country braces for a week of heavy rain. Many people who have spent the last three days outside in the warmth will find they have to shelter indoors, as an aggressive band of rain emerges. According to the agency, in some cases, the rain may cause “severe” weather and submerge the surface up to six inches.

The latest weather warning from the Met Office, in place from 4pm today to 3am tomorrow suggests torrential rain will drift across the north, backed by gale force winds.

The warning reads: “Some severe thunderstorms are likely to develop across parts of the Midlands, Wales and then northern England from late Monday afternoon and through the evening.

“These may contain large and damaging hail, torrential rain, frequent lightning and possibly very strong and gusty winds.

“Whilst many areas will see some heavy rain, hail and thunder at times where the worst of the storms occur some exceptional rainfall totals are possible.

“60 mm of rain is possible in an hour with a very small chance of 150 mm in 3 or 4 hours.”
