Met Office predicts scorching 30C temperatures by week’s end with sunny spells

The Met Office has said temperatures could reach the high 20s this week as another heatwave is set to strike the UK.

While the mercury won't climb to the same level as last week, sun worshippers will be happy with the predictions of 27C highs on Friday and a solid spell of balmy conditions predicted for next week.

Come next week, this "warming trend" is set to continue, according to Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon, bringing temperatures that could exceed 30C.

"We can expect above average temperatures for much of the country early next week – in the mid 20s to low 30s," Dixon revealed.

The spokesman said that there was a "small chance" that some parts of the country will experience a second heatwave.

Last week's sizzling weather completely smashed the UK's temperature records with a scorching 40.3C recorded in Lincolnshire on July 19.

The weather for this week is set fair in the 20Cs for this week, forecasters say, with sunshine in most areas and only the occasional scattered shower.

"Good news for holidaymakers this week, there will be some bright weather around, it will turn a little warmer by the end of the week as well," said Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern.

"Bad news though if you are hoping for some significant rainfall to make up for the substantial deficit that many areas are experiencing at the moment. While there will be some showers around most days, I don’t think there will be anything especially useful in the forecast for this week."

High pressure will continue to build over the next few days before drifting east and allowing a low-pressure patch to move in from the south west. But fear not, high pressure will then build again into Friday and the start of the weekend, bringing sunny and warm weather across most of the country.

Sadly, a bank of low pressure will then push in from Saturday, ushering in more unsettled conditions, before things start settling down and heating up on Monday.

London expects highs of 27C on Tuesday and 26C by Wednesday, even pushing beyond 30C as the week progresses, while the rest of the country will be assured of mid to high 20Cs.
