Met Office predict imminent snow dumping with ’10 inches’ one day this month
The Met Office has revealed that a widespread dumping of snow will hit the UK in the coming days as the mercury looks set to take an icy plunge.
Other forecasters have even produced weather model maps showing that some parts of the country are expecting 10 inches of the white stuff for one day this month.
The Met Office have said that temperatures will be "turning much colder" over the weekend before the risk of wintry showers increases significantly for next week.
According to the their updated long range forecast, spanning from Monday to December 1, high pressure systems in the west will create volatile "unsettled conditions".
Consequently for that period "snow [will be] likely across higher ground and possibly falling to low levels at times", meaning that we could all be in for a covering.
Remarkably, they insist that there is a "slight chance" of snow "further south".
In depth weather model maps from WX Charts confirm what the Met Office have said, and reveal that some regions may see 10 inches of snow.
They indicate that our first dusting will come this weekend, with Scotland likely to see some snow and hilly areas in the Yorkshire Dales set for around three inches.
Higher areas will continue to see snow throughout the month, but WX Charts reckon that by Saturday November 27 there will be widespread flurries.
The whopping 10 inches will fall in remote areas of Scotland such as Loch Lomond and Cairngorms National Park, but lower regions in other parts of the UK won't miss out.
On that Saturday, WX Charts forecast that north Wales, the Midlands, East Anglia and the south west will all see a couple of centimetres.
Northern parts of England will likely see two or three inches as an Arctic front moves across the UK from the north west.
It is also likely that the wintry conditions will persist into December, with the Met Office again warning of likely "wintry weather" from December 2 to December 16.
