Met Office confirms UK to be battered by monster rain storm with ‘100mm’ falling
The UK is set to be battered by a monster rain storm starting in just 24 hours time, the Met Office has confirmed.
While most of the country had thought that the bad weather was over, having seen torrential snow storms and record-breaking sub-zero temperatures in recent weeks, it has now been confirmed to the Daily Star that another dangerous weather system is on the way.
Starting from tomorrow, a rain storm lasting around 24 hours is set to batter the entire country – which will then give way to frosty weather once more.

Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud told the Daily Star: “Occasional rain tomorrow (Wednesday, February 1) will become more widespread across northern Britain, perhaps with 5-15mm (falling) quite widely.
“However some hills and mountains may see 25-50mm.
“A further pulse of rain is expected Thursday (February 2), again this mainly affecting North West Scotland, perhaps giving an additional 100mm by the end of the day on Thursday over hills and mountains.
“Beyond that high pressure is set to becoming more dominate, with high pressure over the UK or eventually to the east.

“However the wettest conditions (are) always reserved for the far north and west as we move into the first week of February.”
The expected rain is not a record-breaker, but the 100mm of rain – or even the 25-50mm predicted – still has the potential to caused serious flooding, with 19 flood alerts currently in place across the country.
The highest total rainfall in any 24-hour period is 341.4mm which fell in Honister Pass, Cumbria on December 5, 2015.
