Parents of Houston infant charged after baby dies with a cracked skull and 90 other fractures

HOUSTON (AP) — The parents of a Houston infant have been charged in her death after an autopsy found the child suffered a cracked skull and more than 90 fractures just days after being brought home from the hospital.

Harris County prosecutors said Monday that Jazmine Robin, who was born prematurely, was 10 weeks old when she died July 15, 12 days after leaving the hospital.

Her father, 24-year-old Jason Paul Robin, is charged with murder. Her mother, 21-year-old Katharine Wyndham White, faces a count of injury to a child by omission.

Robin was being held Tuesday in the Harris County jail. It’s not clear if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf.

White was not listed on the jail roster, and a working phone number for her couldn’t be found.

European Economics Preview: UK Inflation Data Due

Consumer and producer prices from the UK are due on Wednesday, headlining a light day for the European economic news.

At 3.00 am ET, the National Institute of Economic Research releases Sweden’s quarterly economy report and economic tendency survey data. The economic sentiment index is forecast to drop to 99.5 in June from 99.8 in May.

At 3.30 am ET, Sweden’s unemployment data is due. The jobless rate is forecast to rise to 6.5 percent in May from 6.2 percent in April.

Half an hour later, the European Central Bank releases euro area current account balance data for April.

At 4.30 am ET, the Office for National Statistics publishes UK consumer and producer prices. Consumer price inflation is forecast to slow to 2 percent in May from 2.1 percent in April.

UK output price inflation is seen at 1.7 percent versus 2.1 percent in April. Input price inflation is expected to drop to 0.8 percent in May from 3.8 percent in the previous month.

UK house price data for April is also due from ONS at 4.30 am ET.

Man in critical condition after being electrocuted on work site in Toronto

A man has been rushed to hospital in critical condition after he suffered an electric shock while working at a site in downtown Toronto.

Emergency crews responded to a call about an industrial accident in the area of Fort York Boulevard West and Bathurst Street at 10:30 a.m.

The man was transported to hospital without vital signs.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified.

The investigation is ongoing.

Bitcoin Hits Fresh 2019 Record Price

Bitcoin hit a new 2019 record price Tuesday. The virtual currency reached $11464, the highest since March 2018.

After paring its gains slightly, Bitcoin is trading at $11232 as of this writing.

Bitcoin has been on a strong recovery path from its 2018 lows in recent months.

Last week it made significant gains, crossing the $10000 and $11000 thresholds within 24 hours. It reached a 15-month high of $11135 last Saturday.

Bitcoin market is experiencing the strongest buy-activities in recent months. During the last seven days, the cryptocurrency climbed by nearly 24 percent, or $2168. And it is more than 40 percent, or $3263 higher from where it was valued 30 days ago.

In the last 24 hours alone BTC gained 4.34 percent, or, $464.

Year-to-date, Bitcoin is 200 percent stronger.

$4,000 worth of computers stolen from Guelph high school: police

Guelph police say over $4,000 worth of computers were stolen from a high school over the weekend.

The break-in was discovered in a classroom portable on Monday, but police didn’t say which school it happened at.

No damage was reported, but several Chromebooks are now missing, police say.

    WASHINGTON (AP) — Melania Trump announced Tuesday that her longtime spokesman and confidante will succeed Sarah Sanders as White House press secretary.

    Stephanie Grisham has been with President Donald Trump since 2015, when he launched the presidential campaign. She will also take on the role of White House communications director, a strategic and forward-looking role that has been vacant since March. Grisham will also accompany Trump on a trip to Japan and South Korea on Wednesday.

    The first lady announced the news on Twitter, saying she "can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country."

    "Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the @WhiteHouse," Mrs. Trump said.

    Grisham worked directly for Trump after he took office in 2017. She was a deputy press secretary in the West Wing before she was tapped in March of that year to run communications for the first lady. She will continue to serve the first lady in her new capacity.

    Grisham will succeed Sanders, whose resignation is effective at the end of the month.
