Meghan's mate blasts palace as he hits out at Will and Kate in Jamaica

Meghan Markle’s friend Omid Scobie blasts palace ‘diversity’ as he wades into row about photos of Will and Kate greeting Jamaicans behind a fence – but experts point out cropped images were from football field and Raheem Sterling did SAME thing

  • Meghan Markle’s biographer hit out at them for not ‘avoiding certain imagery’
  • Omid Scobie said: ‘I do wonder what the hell palace organisers were thinking’
  • Royal experts quickly quickly pointed to the photographs having been cropped
  • They also showed England footballer Raheem Sterling posing for similar shots

Meghan Markle’s mouthpiece Omid Scobie has tried to blame diversity in the Palace for pictures of the Cambridges greeting Jamaican fans in front of a fence.

The Duchess of Sussex’s biographer lashed out at them for not ‘avoiding certain imagery’, saying ‘I do wonder what the hell palace organisers were thinking’.

But royal experts quickly pointed to photos being tightly cropped from a football field surrounded by mesh railings.

They also showed England footballer Raheem Sterling posing for similar shots with the fans after appearing on the pitch with the Royals yesterday.

Scobie’s latest outburst comes as the Cambridges posed for smiling selfies and were met with chants of ‘we love you, we love you’ on their first day in Jamaica.

But there were some anti-monarchy protests on the Caribbean island as its politicians pushed for a 2022 independence vote and slave trade reparations.

Pictures from their highly anticipated first day showed the Royals laughing and joking with young Jamaicans watching the football match from behind a fence.

Crowds gathered and some sat on top of small buildings as they tried to get a glimpse of the couple.

But Scobie lashed out at the Cambridges’ staff, saying: ‘I do wonder what the hell palace organisers were thinking with some of yesterday’s photo moments.

‘The planning and recon that goes into every step of these engagements is next level, so how did no one think to avoid certain imagery?’

The author, who co-wrote Finding Freedom, added on Twitter: ‘This is why diversity on a team matters.’

But royal experts quickly pointed out that some of the photographs had been cropped tightly.

Wider shots showed the royal couple smiling, laughing and shaking hands with their supporters through the fence after the match.

It was also pointed out footballer Sterling, who was born on the island, had similar images taken of him.

Royal editor and host of the Pod Save The Queen podcast Russell Myers posted: ‘For all the commentary from tightly cropped pictures of William & Kate saying hello and shaking hands to people standing behind a metal fence, which was actually on a football field after a game, here is Raheem Sterling in the same place doing the same thing yesterday.’

He added: ‘I don’t know where to start with this…. Incredibly disappointing manipulation and absolute distortion of facts, supplemented by a completely perverse take which I still can’t get my head around.’

The Cambridges were mobbed by huge crowds of well-wishers desperate to shake their hands, share high-fives and pose for selfies as they travelled to Trench Town.

William played football in a match where he was joined by England star Sterling, who was born on the island.

They also met the Jamaican bobsleigh team, who finished 28th in the recent Winter Olympics, on their week-long tour that will next see them in The Bahamas.

Meanwhile the couple broke the Buckingham Palace ‘no selfie’ rule to pose with the Olympians.

The Queen does not like them as she prefers eye contact, but younger royals such as William, Kate, Harry and Meghan appear to enjoy them.

The Cambridges arrived to a full ceremonial welcome in Kingston yesterday – despite a protest by around 100 people calling for the island to become a republic.

Some want Prince William to apologise and it is understood the Duke will publicly address the issue of slavery in a keynote speech tonight.

Politicians on Jamaica are pushing for the country to become a republic within two years with a referendum being held before the end of 2022.

But while the questions of the island’s links to the British monarchy continues, William and Kate were welcomed as friends.

They travelled to reggae legend Bob Marley’s house and played drums with some musicians in the courtyard.

There was mass hysteria in the neighbourhood as the royal couple were mobbed by crowds who chanted ‘we love you, we love you’ as they walked through the area.

Earlier the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tried out a bobsleigh made for two under the watchful eye of Jamaica’s latest Cool Runnings team.

When William clambered into the training sleigh during the visit, Kate did not hesitate and jumped in behind him.

Chatting to women and men from the bobsleigh team they talked about the popular movie Cool Runnings, which immortalised the 1988 Jamaican Winter Olympics team.

The Duke, who is touring the Caribbean with the Duchess to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, said: ‘One of our favourites, ah so good.’

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on Scobie’s claims.
