Meghan Markle’ s "flashy" baby shower held by her A-list friends "didn’t go down well with the Palace," according to the explosive new book Finding Freedom.

The Duchess of Sussex was thrown an elaborate baby shower by pal and tennis ace Serena Williams at New York’s luxurious Mark Hotel.

Guests included Amal Clooney, celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin and best friend Jessica Mulroney, who gathered in the hotel’s penthouse suite.

Stars dined on desert, which was displayed "next to gold-embellished containers" filled with sugar crystals, Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie claim in Finding Freedom.

Her cake, “a two-tier white-fondant confection decorate with paper figures of Meghan, Harry, and a stroller.”

The book states: “There were also Laduree macron towers, key lime and cherry tarts, red velvet and carrot cakes, cotton candy pompoms, and a jar of multicolored gluten-free doughnut holes.”

Meghan, left “for the UK on a high” on a private jet, which, Durand and Scbobie claim, was ruined by the Palace and a "media frenzy" outside the upmarket location.

The book adds: "While the trip had been a hit with Meghan, senior courtiers back in the UK were spitting out their morning tea when they saw her lavish baby shower thrown by friends turn into a media circus with what looked like carefully stage-managed paparazzi walks of the duchess in big black sunglasses from her hotel to her car and a laundry list of inside party details reported by US press.

"Meghan was often criticised for being too Hollywood, meant too flashy.

"Especially for the reserved aesthetic of the monarchy. "

A senior aide revealed to Finding Freedom’s authors: "It’s fair to say that the optics of the somewhat flashy shower did not go down well with certain individuals at the Palace.

"I think a few people that had defended her over the months felt a little disappointed.

"But sometimes in this role you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

"Ultimately, the trip was just Meghan’s friends celebrating a really exciting moment in her life."
