Meghan McCain responds to Trump attacks with quote from her dad

Meghan McCain, the daughter of late Sen. John McCain, who’s been the object of President Trump’s ire over the last several days, responded to the attacks with a phrase favored by the Arizona Republican.

“As my father always used to say to me – Illegitimi non carborundum,” she posted on Twitter late Tuesday.

The Latin saying is typically translated as: “Don’t let the bastards get you down.”

The tweet from McCain, one of the hosts of ABC’s “The View,” came after Trump during a White House meeting said he was “never a fan of John McCain and I never will be.”

Trump also blasted McCain for casting a vote against repealing ObamaCare.

“Our country would have saved a trillion dollars and we would have had great health care. He told us hours before that he was going to repeal and replace, and then for some reason — I think I understand the reason — he ended up going thumbs down. Had we known that, I think we would have gotten somebody else. I think that’s disgraceful,” Trump said.

Trump’s comments on Tuesday followed a barrage of tweets over the weekend attacking McCain, a Navy pilot who spent more than five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam after being shot down.

Late Tuesday, McCain’s widow posted a private message she received from a person who said she was “glad” her husband was dead.

Cindy McCain said she decided to publicize the message to “make sure all of you could see how kind and loving a stranger can be. I’m posting her note for her family and friends to see.”

The hateful message called John McCain, who died last August from brain cancer, “a traitorous piece of warmongering s–t and I’m glad he’s dead.”

It also compared her daughter to “Mrs. Piggy,” saying she hopes she “chokes to death on the next burger she stuffs down her fat neck, too, c–t. ”
