Meghan Markle’s new blog could ‘fuel conspiracy theories’, worried fans warn

Meghan Markle could be bringing back her old lifestyle blog, but her fans fear it may just create another source of conspiracy theories against her.

The Duchess of Sussex delighted her fans after filling out an application to activate the trademark of her former blog The Tig, according to the Mail On Sunday.

Meghan ran the lifestyle blog during her career as an actress from 2014 to 2017.

The blog, which was named after her favourite red wine Tignanello, contained articles about Meghan’s life, beauty secrets and other topics such as feminism.

Meghan closed the blog down in 2017 before she married Prince Harry and entered the Royal Family.

On the website, she posted the final message: “What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun, and frivolity.

“You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy.”

Following her departure from royal working life, it looks like Meghan may revive the blog under the same trademarked name.

The rumours have been met with both delight and worry from her fans, who fear it could be used to create further conspiracies regarding the duchess.

One user commented: “That's good! The Tig was always fantastic!”

While another tweeted: “To be honest, I want the Tig to stay archived. Because that was Meghan's passion project and her happy place.

"If it's mad live again the bots will fill it with their hate and conspiracies. Just let Meghan have that one thing to herself.”

One other user, speaking days before news of the trademark said: “Prince Harry and especially Meghan should bring back the Tig. It was personal for Meghan. It was her way to communicate with her long-time supporters.”

Meghan and Harry have recently spoken out regarding concerns over Spotify, which the couple signed a podcast contract with in 2020.

Their statement regarding “Covid-19 misinformation” came after a number of musicians have pulled their work from Spotify over the controversial content on The Joe Rogan Experience.

Comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan has come under criticism over his content on Covid-19 and for his guests, which have included anti-vaxxers that have been banned from Twitter for misinformation.

In the statement, released by their organisation Archewell, the couple said: “Last April, our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all too real consequences of Covid-19 misinformation on its platform.

“We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis.”
