Meghan and Kate’s ‘Great Duchess Debacle’ – and new ‘intimidation’ theory

Kate Middleton never bonded with Meghan Markle because she felt "intimidated" by her successful background and approach to royal life, a writer has claimed.

Differing personalities, backgrounds and ambition meant the sisters-in-law were never going to become close friends, according to royal commentator Daniela Elser.

Writing for Australian news website news.com.au, Elser suggested the pair's clash of styles meant their much-publicised strained relationship was doomed from the start.

The "Great Duchess Debacle" is said to have begun in 2018 over flower girl tights ahead of Meghan and Prince Harry's fairytale wedding, Elser adds.

However, despite the infamous spat allegedly leaving one of the two in tears, Elser believes there are much deeper reasons for the animosity.

"If insecurity on Kate’s part did lie at the heart of the Great Duchess Debacle it would make sense," she said.

"By the time Meghan moved into Kensington Palace in 2017 she was a successful actress with five seasons of a cable network dramedy under her belt, had launched a clothing line for a Canadian department store, and had set up a blog that was a fairly generic melange of Maya Angelou quotes and lipstick suggestions.

"More impressively, in my book anyway, was the fact she had also served as a globetrotting ambassador for World Vision, was a counsellor for One Young World, a UK-based charity, and had worked as a UN Women advocate including giving a speech at a UN world conference event in Beijing.

"And Kate?

"Well, before she married William she once organised a charity roller disco.

"The fact of the matter is, while Kate might now be hailed for her Early Years and mental health work, back when she was a single gal she was hardly blazing a shining professional path."

This theory appears to have been backed by fellow royal columnist Camilla Tominey, who believes a culture clash could be at the root of their problems.

Writing in the Telegraph, Tominey said a palace insider revealed that "they were not only very different women with very different personalities but very different women who came from very different places.

“Kate spent 10 years as a girlfriend learning the ropes. Everything happened much more quickly with Harry and Meghan, who entered the royal scene with her own, fully formed ideas. I think Kate found her quite intimidating.”

Meanwhile as we reported yesterday, Meghan is reportedly "prepared to heal the rift" she has with the Royal Family – if they apologise to her, a broadcaster has claimed.

Meghan disclosed a number of explosive revelations during the interview.

And now, speaking on his TalkRADIO show, Kevin O'Sullivan claims Meghan is prepared to patch things up with her husband's family.

He said: "Meghan let it be known that she is prepared to heal the rift with the Royal Family so long as they apologise to her.

"I think people in this country think the apology should be coming in the opposite direction, that Harry and Meghan owe our Royal Family a huge apology for outrageously calling them racists."

Mr O'Sullivan added: "I don't think we're going to see Meghan here anytime soon."
