Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's trip to New York was a "huge two fingers up to the Royal Family" and "shows the royal feud is far from over", a commentator has explosively claimed.

The ex-royals touched down in New York last Wednesday for their three-day trip around the Big Apple, staying at the luxury Carlyle Hotel said to be a favourite of Princess Diana.

Duncan Larcombe, author and royal expert, has said he suspects the couple's trip to the World Trade Centre would have left the Palace "totally baffled".

Speaking to Closer, Larcombe said: "Clearly, the couple are still planning on presenting themselves as people of importance.

"They seem to be doing the same type of work they did as royals, just on their own terms and without Harry’s family.

"It’s very dangerous territory. I imagine the royal family and their aides will be scratching their heads, but also fearful of what they’ll do next.”

The author also makes the claim that the trip is indication that the pair will do "exactly what they did here over in the States".

Another royal commentator slammed the New York Trip as an embarrassing reality check where "police officers outnumbered fans".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met New York City mayor Bill de Blasio and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul during the trip last week.

However, ex-Sun royal editor Charlie Rae told TalkRADIO that the Sussexes' star is waning, Express.co.uk reported.

He said: "This is not a royal tour, this is a glorified tourist visit."

Mr Rae added: "Three days in New York, and I think some of the media are getting overexcited.

"There are hardly any crowds there in any of the photos. There are more NYPD officers than anyone else.

"They are meeting dignitaries and staying at the lavish Carlyle hotel, but it is not a royal tour. They no longer have royal duties."

Harry and Meghan conducted the three-day visit to attend last night's Global Citizen Live concert in Central Park, a campaign for worldwide vaccine equality.

They also met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, despite not having a diplomatic role.

The Sussexes have been contacted for comment.
