Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are 'struggling' in their efforts to become 'power players' in the US two years on from Megxit, a royal commentator has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit royal duties in M2020 and relocated to California to start their post-Megxit life, securing multimillion media deals and socialising with A-listers including Oprah, Serena Williams and George and Amal Clooney.

Despite this, nearly two years on royal commentator Daniela Elser claimed the pair "still seem to be struggling to gain traction as the leaders they seem so keen to be", and while expecting Harry and Meghan to "join the most upper echelons of the US glitterati", life in America hasn't panned out as expected for the royal couple.

Writing for news.com.au, she said: "Like pretty much every assumption that the world held during those first few febrile months of 2020, nothing has quite panned out the way that anyone thought, including the Sussexes’ post-palace careers.

"As we are poised to begin 2022, Harry and especially Meghan are increasingly polarising figures who have failed to build the sort of broad support base that many, including myself, expected them to."

Elser points out that the pair polled poorly in the US following their controversial Oprah interview earlier this year, with 71% of Americans saying they were "hardly that sympathetic towards their self-described plight", and 31% had no sympathy for the couple at all.

Even the Obamas – who are good friends with Prince William and Kate Middleton – snubbed Harry and Meghan following the interview, not inviting the couple to Obama's 60th birthday bash, The Mirror reported.

The couple are plagued by even more woes, Elser further points out, as despite Prince Harry receiving a whopping $27million (£20million) advance for his tell-all memoirs, only one in four Americans are interested in reading it, reports YouGovAmerica.

While Kate Middleton has been on the cover of four magazines this year, Meghan hasn't featured on a single one without hubby Harry by her side.

Elser also referred to the pair appearing on the cover of Time magazine in September as two of the world's most influential people and their red-carpet trip to New York the same month, documented by their own personal photographer.

She highlighted Meghan attempts to lobby for paid parental leave.

The royal commentator said: "Having spent the last couple of months trying to push for paid parental leave, there does not appear to be anything even vaguely resembling a groundswell of support behind the Duchess.

"Their excruciatingly cringey Time cover and their faux-royal tour of New York would seem to have failed to truly establish the duo as the power players they seem to achingly hungry to be."
