The British socialite is accused of laying out the schoolgirl outfit on a bed for the alleged victim because she “thought it would be fun”. Maxwell denies recruiting teenage girls for her partner Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse from 1994 to 2004.

During her testimony on Monday at the Federal court in the Southern District of New York, the alleged victim, referred to only as Kate, told jurors she was 17 when she first met Epstein and saw him and Maxwell “multiple times” over the next few years.

The witness claimed that when she was 18, she went to Epstein’s Palm Beach house in Florida where the schoolgirl outfit was waiting for her on her bed.

Assistant United States attorney Lara Pomerantz asked her: “Did there come a time when you were given clothing to wear at the Palm Beach house?”

Kate replied: “Yes. I was given a schoolgirl outfit. It was a short pleated skirt, white socks, white panties and a shirt.”

Ms Pomerantz asked: “Where did you find the schoolgirl outfit?”

Kate said: “On my bed.”

The witness added that she went downstairs to find Maxwell and asked “what was happening with the clothes in my room?”

Kate continued: “She said ‘I thought it would be fun for you to take Jeffrey his tea in the outfit’.”

Ms Pomerantz said: “Why did you put it on?”

Kate replied: “I didn’t know how to say no. I didn’t know what kind of consequence there would be for not wearing it.

“Ghislaine gave me a tray and told me to go and walk to where Jeffrey was and bring him the tray.

“He was next to the pool house and he was working out. He was with some kind of trainer.”

Ms Pomerantz said: “After the trainer left, did Jeffrey initiate sexual contact with you?”

Kate replied: “Yes.”

Ms Pomerantz asked: “Did Epstein engage in a sex act with you?”

Kate said: “Yes.”

Ms Pomerantz asked: “What if anything did Maxwell say to you later that day?”

The witness replied: “She asked me if I had fun and told me that I was such a good girl and that I was one of his favourites, and that’s it.”

Kate also claimed that on another occasion when she was 17, Maxwell led her to Epstein in a massage room at her London townhouse and presented her with oils before saying: “Have a good time.”

Ms Pomerantz asked: “Did you give Epstein a massage?”

The witness replied: “Yes.”

Ms Pomerantz asked: “Did Epstein initiate sexual contact with you?”

Kate said: “Yes.”

Ms Pomerantz said: “Without going into details, did Epstein engage in a sex act with you?”

Kate replied: “Yes.”

The witness also claimed Maxwell had asked if she knew anybody who could come to her house and give Epstein oral sex because it was “a lot for her to do”.

Maxwell denies all charges.

The trial continues.
