PUB-GOERS have hit the town for another boozy night in Manchester despite new lockdown rules being introduced.

Thousands enjoyed a night out in the city on Saturday, making the most of the weekend's balmy weather.

Revellers took to pubs and bars despite strict new coronavirus lockdown rules being brought in for the North West of England.

Bethany Harrison, from Salford, said the restrictions would not stop her from partying to celebrate her 22nd birthday.

"I wanted to let my hair down and see my friends," she told the Mirror.

"The Government is telling us to go out and spend money, so that's what I'm doing. The latest rules aren't going to affect me."

There were similar scenes in Manchester the night before on Friday, as club closures didn't stop revellers enjoying themselves.

Young people were seen boozing and enjoying themselves – however there didn't seem to be much social distancing happening.

The lockdown rules affect 4.5million people in Greater Manchester, parts of East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire.

People in the quarantined areas are still able to meet in groups of six for a pints, new government guidance says.

The advice reads: "You can continue to meet in public outdoor spaces including outdoor seating or beer gardens in groups of no more than six people, unless the group includes only people from two households.

"You cannot meet people you do not live with in a private garden."

Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced on Thursday, July 30, that Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire would see their lockdown rules restricted from midnight.

Anyone ignoring the lockdown restrictions could be fined £100.

The new rules are expected to be subject to a weekly review, and they come after a spike in coronavirus cases in the region.

Punters were also seen out and about in Blackpool on Saturday night, although the resort is not currently subject to any lockdown rules.

Pubs were allowed to reopen across the UK on 4 July – sparking joy as Brits were served a pint for the first time since lockdown in March.

However nightclubs remain shut – due to limited social distancing and lower ability to keep areas clean constantly.
