Man ‘who tried to murder suspected killer of Rushden mum’ appears in court
A 27-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a man who allegedly stabbed a mum-of-two to death.
Levi Davis, 25, and Jake Swords, were in a a white Vauxhall van which crashed with a black VW Polo being driven by Lucas Barnard, 27.
The collision took place on Wellingborough Road around 8.30pm on Saturday night in Rushden, Northants.
Barnard was afterwards arrested on suspicion of murdering Levi and is currently under police guard in hospital.
Swords is also accused of trying to kill Barnard, who has not been charged.
Local residents rushed to Levi’s aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics around 8.30pm.
A 13-year-old was arrested at the time but later freed with no further action to be taken.
Swords today appeared at Northampton Magistrates Court in a grey sweatshirt and bottoms, with his hair in a topknot.
His solicitor Ammo Bains made no application for bail during the short hearing.
Swords was remanded in custody by magistrate Brenda Foster to appear at Northampton Crown Court on 8 January.
He waved at members of his family in the court, saying he was going to Peterborough jail.
One woman said: "Love you."
