Man ‘distraught’ after hearing about shortages of beloved McDonald’s milkshakes

McDonald’s milkshakes are undoubtedly one of the most popular items on the fast food chain’s menu.

But it seems they are even more popular than anyone could imagine, with one bloke revealing he was “distraught” at the news of shortages of the sugary drink.

A combination of the fallout of Brexit, lorry driver shortages and Covid-19 restrictions has meant supplies are getting held up at the UK border.

ITV decided to speak to people in Scotland about the news – and some of their reactions were rather stronger than you might think.

In the clip that’s gone viral on Twitter, the reporter starts the report by saying: “We saw how the McDonald’s milkshake shortage is affecting others.”

One customer admitted he was “disappointed” and, when asked what he was going to do next, replied: “I’ll probably go to the ice cream shop around the corner.”

While that may seem like quite an easy thing to do, the reporter then amped up the significance, saying: “You’ve just got to figure it out all by yourself.”

But the best was yet to come. As the clip comes to an end, one man simply say she is “distraught” at the news.

The interview has left viewers stunned, with many suggesting there may be slightly more pressing topics to cover than a lack of shakes.

“Please…please…tell me this is a spoof news report? I am aware that McDonalds have some milkshake issues but for the love of God surely STV didn't run a news report on it?

Another said she was left “cracking up” at the interview.

A McDonald's spokesperson told Sky News: "Like most retailers, we are currently experiencing some supply chain issues, impacting the availability of a small number of products," the company said.

"Bottled drinks and milkshakes are temporarily unavailable in restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales."

"We apologise for any inconvenience, and thank our customers for their continued patience. We are working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible."
