Madeleine McCann case could be cracked in just ‘ONE week in DNA bombshell’

US-based Dr Mark Perlin has lodged a request with London’s Metropolitan Police to release 18 samples from the investigation.

Dr Perlin claims his Pittsburgh lab Cybernetics – which has identified victims of the 9/11 terror attack – can unlock samples UK authorities struggled to analyse.

Portuguese police initially sent DNA findings to be examined by the UK’s Forensic Science Service (FSS) in Birmingham after Maddie’s disappearance in 2007.

But senior FSS scientist Dr John Lowe said they were “too complex” for his team.

“What we actually need is the electronic data that comes out of the laboratory”

“That’s the standard starting point for DNA analysis.

“It would take us one to two weeks, depending on the data, after we receive it to provide some initial preliminary report.”

In 2016, Dr Perlin’s lab successfully analysed a small and complex piece of evidence in a high-profile mass murder trial in Australia.

It was pivotal in securing a guilty verdict against Robert Xie, who slaughtered five relatives and evaded justice at three earlier trials.

Dr Perlin made a pro-bono offer to test the relevant DNA samples to the Metropolitan Police, but has yet to receive a response.

It earlier emerged another suspect in the abduction was never questioned by police – because he was fired from his job and died before an interview could take place.

Euclides Monteiro was sacked from The Ocean Club for stealing from guests shortly before Maddie disappeared.

Portuguese media claimed Monteiro, a heroin addict, may have kidnapped the girl as an act of revenge against his former employer.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing. We are not providing a running commentary.”

Daily Star Online has approached the McCann family’s spokesman for comment.
